Sustainability

Our Sustainability Promise

Wilton Recycling operates with a 95% waste recovery mandate, transforming scrap metal, end‑of‑life vehicles, plastics, paper and WEEE into new resources instead of landfill. Across five facilities and over 150 staff, the focus is on practical actions that cut emissions, protect nature and support the communities served.

Wilton Recycling is certified to ISO 14001, demonstrating a structured commitment to reducing environmental impact, improving resource efficiency and continually enhancing the sustainability of our recycling, waste management and waste‑to‑fuel operations.

Driving a Circular Economy

  • Residual waste is converted into high‑quality Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) to replace fossil fuels in energy‑intensive industries such as cement manufacturing.
  • Recovered metals, plastics, paper and other recyclables are sent to specialist facilities and returned to manufacturers, keeping materials in use for longer.

Protecting Nature and Biodiversity

  • Over 45 acres of forestry have been planted, alongside a dedicated biodiversity zone beside the main facility with wildflower meadows, a wildlife pond, bee hives and native saplings.
  • These habitats support pollinators and wildlife, encourage natural regeneration and help to offset part of the company’s carbon footprint.

Building a More Sustainable Future

At Wilton Recycling, sustainability goes beyond waste collection and recycling. It shapes how we run our sites, invest in equipment and manage materials every day.

Recovery Before Waste
We work to recover as much value as possible from the waste and materials that enter our facilities. Metals, plastics, paper, cardboard, construction waste, end-of-life vehicles and electrical items can all be separated, processed and directed into further use where possible.

SRF Production
Materials that cannot be recycled may still have value. At our SRF facility in Corranure Cavan, non-recyclable waste is processed into Solid Recovered Fuel for use in the cement industry. This helps reduce reliance on fossil fuels and keeps more material away from landfill.

Our approach follows the waste hierarchy. We aim to reuse first, recycle wherever possible and recover value from materials that cannot be recycled. Disposal is always the last option.

Environmental Impacts
We also focus on reducing the environmental impact of our own operations. This includes energy monitoring, LED lighting upgrades, electric vehicle charging points, rainwater harvesting and solar PV projects across our sites.

We are investing in solar energy across all our sites. Helping reduce the electricity required from the grid. These projects form part of a wider plan to lower emissions across the Wilton Recycling Group.

Biodiversity Support
Protecting the local environment matters too. Our Cavan site includes forestry, native planting, meadow areas, a pond and beehives that support biodiversity. These spaces help create habitats for pollinators, birds and other wildlife.

Starts at Home
Sustainability also depends on the choices made by households, businesses and contractors. By separating waste correctly, using the right recycling services and keeping contamination out of bins and skips, you help improve recycling rates and reduce unnecessary disposal.

Waste Handled Properly
Whether you are hiring a skip, recycling a vehicle, managing commercial waste or using our wheelie bin service, Wilton Recycling helps you handle waste responsibly.

Together, we can keep materials in use for longer, reduce landfill and support a cleaner future for County Cavan, Ireland and beyond.

We continue to review our processes, work with trusted recycling partners and invest in better systems that reduce waste, improve resource recovery and help customers make practical, responsible choices every day across Ireland.
